GCA, ACS, TMS bag wins in middle school badminton

ASIDE from Saipan International School’s teams, Grace Christian Academy, Agape Christian School, and Tanapag Middle School also excelled in their respective brackets during the opening co-ed middle school division matches of the PSS-NMBA Interscholastic Badminton League SY24-25 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium on Saturday.

GCA 2 led bracket 3 with a total of 6 points, most of which they earned from their match against Dandan Middle School 2.

GCA 2, which only has two females, Jenny Liang and Joyce Guan, claimed the girls singles and doubles event. With Lawrence Pangelinan, Jose Bonto, Kyle Cho, Francis Figueroa, and Kristian Na, GCA 2 ruled the boys singles and doubles events, but lost to DMS 2 in the mixed doubles event.

GCA’s second match against Francisco M. Sablan Middle School proved to be a tough challenge, but GCA still managed to gather a couple more points in the boys singles and doubles to further solidify their top spot in bracket 3.

In second place is Tanapag Middle School 1 with five points after sweeping FMS in all five events.

FMS is third with 3 points and DMS 2 is fourth with 1 point. Rota Jr./Sr. High School has yet to play their matches.

TMS 1’s roster consists of Kyria Ngiraked, Rhian Pascua, Rhiana Macalinao, Timmy Ashley Licda, Kyara McCale, Brayden Otiwii, Pryce Cadag, Rhyane Umali, Evan Seguritan, and Juan Tenorio.

Bracket 1

In bracket 1, SIS 1 is in first place with 5 points after dominating Hopwood Middle School 2 in all five events.

In second place is ACS 2 with 4 points. The team nearly pulled a sweep of their own against HMS 2, but the latter claimed the girls singles event.

ACS’ roster consists of (Tina) Chunyi Hu, (Angel) Enchu Hu, (Daniel) Haozheng Huang, (Lucas) Zhichen Yang, Scott Li and Scott Shi.

In third place is Saipan Community School with 3 points; DMS 1 is fourth with 2 points; and HMS 2 is fifth with 1 point. Tinian Jr. High School has yet to play their matches.
